Discernment

Let's start here

Being open isn't the same as believing everything.

Discernment is what keeps a spiritual practice from becoming a place where you can be sold anything.

Going deeper

Discernment asks three questions: does this hold up when I'm calm, who benefits from me believing it, and does it return me to myself or to dependence?

Light

An open mind with a working filter.

Shadow

Cynicism as protection, or credulity dressed as trust.

How to work with this

• Sleep on anything urgent.

• Ask who benefits.

• Notice whether a teaching returns you to your own authority.

Questions to sit with

• What am I believing because I want it to be true?

• Who am I handing my authority to?

• Does this practice make me more able, or more dependent?

Where this connects

Justice and Seven of Swords; Sodalite and Fluorite; the angel number entries.
